Mattson Academy: Mind Over Magi
The sequel to Mattson Academy is finally here! Mattson Academy: Mind Over Magi is officially available. Currently it can be bought directly from the distributor here: https://shop.ingramspark.com/b/084?WyGm2ZJDlZwoX0nAgcqNc3Ru5pLALxnKSMnokqq4SQP
It’s also listed on Amazon, although there seem to be stock issues currently, and then also on Barnes and Noble. Hopefully it’ll be popping up on shelves everywhere before you know it. I’m really excited for people to get their hands on this story, and now, I’ll tell you why.
Mattson Academy built the world that these stories take place in. We met the core cast, we got a taste of the world, and we started to see some of the conflicts that can emerge in said world. Mattson Academy: Mind Over Magi, expands on everything! More characters—friends, family, villains, heroes—and more time with characters that didn’t get enough time in the spotlight. Vern, Julian, and Carrie, in particular get expanded on a fair bit. I included them as this secondary group of friends to flesh things out a bit, and each of them grew on me in different ways. I like how we got glimpses of them doing their own things throughout book 1, and they’re even more present in this one. We spend more time with different teachers as well. As much as I love Professor Skreed and Lady Ariel, the others are just as fun to write.
We also go more places. A highlight of book 1 was the field trip to Atlantis. This time, we not only start outside the school and see how some of the kids get there (public transportation, duh), but we explore other places like Philadelphia (Rocky steps anyone?) and we take in a duel at the North Pole! The world of Mattson Academy is vast and I’m eager to explore as much of it as I can with my readers.
Mattson Academy was very much about exploration. Kids exploring a world of magic they either didn’t know about or had yet to fully experience. Loners exploring friendship. Teens figuring out what kind of people they want to be. Mattson Academy: Mind Over Magi is more about trust. Who can you trust, and how much? What are you giving up to trust someone? Can you even trust yourself? There’s certainly exploration still, it’s a magical world after all, but I really want the story to grow as our heroes do. I recall every year of high school being wildly different from the last, and I hope that these books capture that.
Chapter 1 is up on my publisher’s website (here: https://bscpublishinggroup.com/jay-okeefe/#okeefe ) and it’ll be here as well. I’m also going to release some deleted scenes and short stories to expand on Mind Over Magi in the coming months. I still can’t quite believe how many people enjoyed Mattson Academy, and I truly hope they enjoy Mind Over Magi even more.
